forcefield creationQuite similar, honestly, to the Dome. Noah can create spherical/spheroidal forcefields, with the caveat that they must have a center point on his body somewhere (for the moment, at least). These forcefields can be clearly visible or nearly invisible (there's a very slight sheen to them in the right light), and Noah has complete control over what can enter or exit them and how large they are. They are resilient but require his focus and energy; the larger they are, the less spherical they are, and the more external or internal impacts they take, the harder they are to maintain. Just because a part of the forcefield is solid does not mean all of it has to be - he has minute control over this and can allow only parts of it to be penetrable. He's spent a lot of time honing this particular skill.
PERSONALITY
🎻 Generally cynical about the world. He's not one to believe that things will turn out alright, but simply that everyone will muddle through because they have to, including himself. He is particularly skeptical of people accepting Liminals readily any time soon.🎻 Blunt and a little mean; Noah has opinions and is more than happy to share them. He's not unswayable and doesn't necessarily think he's always right, but he thinks he's right most of the time.
🎻 Hesitant to talk about his feelings, especially about his powers, their manifestation, and the loss of his career as a violinist. With those he cares about he's happy to listen and discuss their feelings, but he keeps his own negative feelings, outside of the vague cynical ones, to himself. He makes up outlandish stories when pressed about how he lost his arm and leg.
🎻 Resilient - Noah spent some time as a young boy lamenting the loss of his arm and leg, but forced himself to get on with his life. Even though he is clearly changed emotionally, he still does what he has to do to live. He has little sympathy for people who wallow in their pain for too long.
🎻 Somewhat secretly afraid of his own powers. While he tells himself (and everyone around him) that he's utterly confident in his ability to control his forcefields, he lives in fear of hurting himself again. He believes he's capable of not hurting anyone else, but when it comes to himself he's been traumatized by his power manifestation.
🎻 Outgoing and social, Noah actually enjoys being around people, even if he's not always the most pleasant to be around. He smiles easily (though often it's at another's expense) and likes to be involved in goings-on and isn't shy in the least.
🎻 Likes to be put together but doesn't mind getting a little dirty if the occasion calls for it. Likes nice, practical clothes that are generally simple. He prefers his surroundings to be incredibly neat, and turns in very clear and nicely arranged reports from explorations.
🎻 Finds comfort in nature and is relatively uninterested in technology except in the most basic sense (and when it comes to his prosthetics). Has a smart phone but has about three apps on it that aren't for messaging - one that helps identify plants and animals, one that keeps track of books he has read or wants to read, and a music app.
🎻 A dedicated friend - he considers a lot of people friends that he doesn't open up to, though. For him the bar to friendship is relatively low and is mostly around what he's willing to do/tolerate from other people, not how open he's willing to be. He prefers to be self-reliant.
APPEARANCE
6"0' tall, lean but surprisingly muscular under all those sweaters. He generally is very well kept and wears nice clothes when he's not out adventuring, and stylish but practical and durable clothes when he is.Noah has a prosthetic left arm (elbow down) and left leg (knee down). Thanks to technological advancements due to Liminals, they are practically as good as natural body parts, though Noah can tell the difference in his hand's dexterity and feeling when it comes to playing the violin. His are conspicuously NOT human looking, though - he's opted for models that stand out as obvious prosthetics because he has a chip on his shoulder about them.
HISTORY
Noah's mother is a composer and classically trained violinist and his father is a conductor, so it's not surprising that he quickly became enamored with music as a young boy. He started learning violin at the tender age of 3 and improved in leaps and bounds as he aged, winning his first small competition at 5 and then his first international competition at 7. He played with New York Philharmonic. He traveled to competitions and other orchestras all over the world. Though relatively famous in the music world, his parents made sure that he was raised as humble as possible while still appreciating his talents. He was homeschooled due to all his travel (and, honestly, his parents' protectiveness), but they made sure that he had at least occasional playdates with family friends' children and had some time to be a normal child. He learned to play piano as well, and though talented, he didn't care for it quite as much as he did the violin. His parents never had to force him to practice, and he was a happy, outgoing child who worked hard, even at such a young age.All this changed when, at age 11, something happened. When stretching outside in a park before playing a game of soccer with some friends, he suddenly felt a strange, tingling sensation in his left hand. He focused a little on it, and then a little more, and suddenly he had formed a completely solid forcefield with the center about halfway up his forearm. Unfortunately, his hand was resting on his foot, and the forcefield didn't just naturally let his own body pass through it. Very suddenly, his arm and his leg were severed, leaving him too startled to even scream. The forcefield fell away, its center now detached from his body, and that was that. He was rushed to a hospital and kept isolated to protect others from his apparently dangerous powers. It soon became clear that he could at least stop himself from forming forcefields, which meant he was allowed to go home, and IRIS was kind enough to not immediately send him off to a Liminal school. Noah was, after all, incredibly depressed now, having lost the ability to play violin, and left with a debilitating injury.
His parents, absolutely crushed and frantically worried about their son, moved the family up to Saratoga Springs in hopes of giving Noah a bit of distance from his old life. They hoped, too, that the availability of nature, much kinder than the harsh skyscrapers of Manhattan, would do him good. Noah spent much of his first six months in their new home quiet and detached, sitting outside and watching birds and other creatures. Slowly, animals started to pique his interest more, and he took to reading books about nature, and worked harder on learning to walk with his prosthetic so he could go on short hikes. It took some time, but soon Noah started to come out of his shell more. After about a year of recovery, IRIS (who had been checking in regularly), said it was time for him to leave home. He was taken to the Shawangunk Ridge Educational Facility, a move he had mixed feelings about - he didn't want to leave home, but he knew he'd be able to improve his powers there.
It was a bit of a rough start as a reintroduction to being social, especially because he'd never been in a formal school setting, but Noah resolved to get through it and to pull himself out of his funk. Rooming with Dorin Lee helped quite a bit - the other boy had powers that weren't just cool, like some of the other kids, and he seemed to need a push to be social as well. Using the excuse of trying to get Dorin out of his shell, Noah quickly got back to his old outgoing self, although with a little bit of a bitter edge to it, even at 12. He also threw himself into his training, spending long hours honing his abilities to ensure that he never hurt anyone (and, ideally, would never hurt himself again). He hiked and spent a lot of time in nature. He got more advanced prosthetics. He excelled at school. And, while he refused to pick up a violin again even with his more dextrous prosthetic hand, he started to play the piano again.
On graduating, Noah felt the creeping feeling of depression coming back - he had been able to push out the idea of what he wanted to do with his life when he was at school because he was so focused on getting back to normal and learning to control his powers, but now he had to care, and he couldn't do what he really wanted - play violin. More school sounded depressing. Feeling listless, he moved back to New York City and worked as a piano player in a small lounge, a far fall from his childhood days. After about a year of this, still feeling frustrated and unfulfilled, he reached out to IRIS to ask about employment opportunities, figuring he might as well use the only skill he had - his powers - for something. Enodia Station had just opened, and he accepted a position there without much optimism about how much he'd enjoy it.
He found life at Enodia to be surprisingly good, though. He upgraded his prosthetics, giving him even more dexterity, and found the work of exploring to be engaging and rewarding. He even managed to befriend some of the other residents, something he hadn't expected, if he was being honest with himself. But then the blip happened, and it shook him deeply. He was fortunate enough that his powers simply wouldn't really work at all, but seeing others having difficulty controlling theirs terrified him. He took the time away from the station to obsessively work on his power control, and while he was unsure about returning, he eventually decided to. It's a job, after all. And kind of home.
NOTES
🎻 Has a very good relationship with his parents, and goes to visit them as often as he can.🎻 Has perfect pitch.
🎻 Fluent in English and Korean.
🎻 Has a female blue quaker parrot named Paganini that he's had since he was 11.
🎻 Paganini calls everyone 'baby.' You can't escape it. Noah (and sometimes Dorin) are called 'honey,' though.
🎻 Lives with his childhood friend and childhood roommate Dorin Lee because why wouldn't he?? They're best friends and he is NOT a little emotionally codependent.
❤️ : Classical music, violin, piano, books (of all sorts), birds, nature, hiking, parties
🚫 : Messy living quarters, too much technology, being stuck inside too long, podcasts, overly sweet things

WRITING: Easy peasy! I prefer 3rd person present tense but can adjust if that just ain't working for you. Happy with GDocs or threading or e-mail or pretty much anything. I also do not believe that all tags should be long tags!! Sometimes a short one fits the bill! But I can def be wordy. Like now.
BACKTAGGING: Always and forever!
THREADHOPPING: I don't mind this in the context of a journal post but unless something is open I'd prefer it not in threading situations 🙇♂️
PRIVATE FILTERS: I don't mind if you do them on my characters' journal posts at all, chat to your heart's content! I'll just ignore it if I'm not involved.
SENSITIVE TOPICS: I'm pretty chill and am good about avoiding things I super don't like. I'll let you know if something comes up.
SMUT: Fine to discuss generalities OOC but I'm a fade to black girl.
CONFLICT: Fine with it and sometimes causes it himself with his big mouth, oops. (Personally I will avoid starting shit if you don't want me to start shit - please feel free to let me know!!! Also any rudeness is purely IC, but please let me know if it rubs you the wrong way OOCly because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings ♥).
VIOLENCE: Is not itching for a physical altercation and will generally prevent arguments from turning into a real fight by using his powers. He has no interest in getting hit or hitting someone unless it is extremely called for.
BADMOUTHING: Constantly dishing it out, and actually kind of doesn't care if he's on the receiving end. (Pls see above re: IC-ness and my desire to not OOCly upset anyone ever!)
